Village votes by precinct

Forget all that weird election news from last week. It was just a bad dream! In reality Hillary Clinton swept the polls! Local Democratic state representative candidate Brian Housh handily beat the Republican incumbent, as did Democratic state senate candidate Matthew Kirk. Ted Strickland goes to the U.S. Senate! Challenger Robert Klepinger ousted Republican U.S. Rep. Mike Turner! Democrats bested Republicans in every state race!

Okay, sorry.  While on the state and national level, last week’s news remains true, the above paragraph describes how villagers voted. As usual, Yellow Springs residents marched to a drummer that was way different and way more liberal than the rest of Ohio. Because the precinct counts weren’t available before the deadline for last week’s paper, we’re providing them now.

And indeed, to no one’s surprise, in Yellow Springs Clinton came out the big winner. A whopping 89 percent of Yellow Springs voters, or 2,216 villagers, cast their votes for Clinton, while seven percent, or 178 voters, went for Trump. Of third-party contenders, Green Party candidate Jill Stein picked up 55 votes, Libertarian Gary Johnson won 35 and independent candidate Richard Duncan won 4. Voters in Precinct 442, in the village center, were the most liberal, with 560 votes cast for Clinton and just 20 for Trump, while Precinct 440 voters, on the town’s northern edge, had the most Trump supporters, with 619 votes cast for Clinton and 67 for Trump.

However, the presidential race was much closer in Miami Township. In the rural area around the village, Clinton beat Trump 431 votes to 385, with Johnson winning 19 votes, Stein 12 and Duncan 6.

Voter turnout was high in both the village and township. In the northern edge of the village, Precinct 440, 80.67 percent of registered voters turned out; in Precinct 441, the western part of town, 74.7 percent voted; in Precinct 442, the center of town, 70.9 percent voted, and in the southern part of town, Precinct 443, 78.8 percent cast their votes.

In the township, 80.9 percent of Miami Township Precinct 445 voters cast their votes, along with 79.9 percent of those in Precinct 446.

Below are precinct results for village and township precincts in national and some state contests.
