Preparations and collections have begun for the annual Miami Valley Council for Native Americans’ school supply and winter clothing drive for Standing Rock Reservation in South Dakota.

Continuing a year-long celebration of the Little Miami River and its regional impact, Glen Helen Nature Preserve will host a screening of the hour-long documentary “Call of the Scenic River: An Ohio Journey,” from 2–3 p.m. Sunday, July 29.

Yellow Springs Brewery will display the artwork local abstract and surrealist painter Buck Truitt, with an opening on Friday, July 27.

An opening reception for the exhibition “Places Far, Near and Dear,” featuring paintings by Anna Arbor and Catherine Lehman, will be held Friday, July 20, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the YSAC Community Gallery.

Richard “Dick” Norman Carpenter died peacefully at Hospice of Dayton on July 20, 2018 following a stroke at age 80.

Offering no comment about the action, the Yellow Springs School Board last week appointed Jack Hatert, assistant principal at Yellow Springs High and McKinney Middle schools, as interim principal of the combined campus for the 2018–19 school year.
