Senior Center reopening halted
- Published: October 16, 2020
After the announcement that Greene County had been elevated to level 3, or “red,” by the Ohio Public Health Advisory System on Thursday, Oct. 15, the YS Senior Center has halted its plan to reopen for in-person events. The elevation to level 3 indicates “very high exposure or spread” of COVID-19.
The Senior Center had planned to reopen on Monday, Oct. 19, with a “Coffee and Donuts with Friends” event, to be held in three sessions with a limited number of attendees. The center had also planned to reinstitute in-person activities like qi gong and tai chi. All such events have been canceled until Greene County is moved back to level 2, or “orange.”
These events, along with the center’s plan and protocols for reopening, were published in a front-page story in the Oct. 15 issue of the YS News, which was printed the day before the announcement about the elevated level was made by the state.

We don’t get out much. A donut would be good. I took half a hot dog bun, toasted it in the toaster, buttered it, and sprinkled on a fairly hearty amount of sugar and cinnamon. It was pretty much like a warm donut and very good with coffee. Oh well, what can I say, we’re old and make do. Stay well. Be safe. Peace.
The isolation is very hard on us seniors, but if we’ve learned anything with aging, it’s how to exercise patience and utilize common sense. We’ll get through this ((hugs)).
