- Published: December 1, 2022
YS Schools announced the November recipients of student and faculty awards at the Nov. 10 Board of Education meeting:
• Charlie McCullough, second grade, Young’s Dairy Mills Lawn School Scholar of the Month — McCullough, who has attended Mills Lawn since kindergarten, was nominated by Counselor John Gudgel and his second-grade teacher, Erika Hunter, the latter of whom wrote: “Charlie has excellent participation in class and is always eager to learn. He is responsible, and is a leader in the classroom. We appreciate his positive attitude and consideration for others. Charlie sets the example for being Bulldog Brave!”
• Greenlee Cordell, 12th grade, Mills Park Hotel McKinney Middle School/Yellow Springs High School Scholar of the Month — Cordell, who has attended Yellow Springs schools since fourth grade, was nominated by high school social studies teacher Hannah Corrigan, who wrote: “Greenlee has shown so much personal and academic growth this year. She is doing well in classes, sets an example for her peers through her engagement, supports the school community by attending sporting events, cares deeply about the success of her peers (often helping them with assignments in class and during study hall), and is taking on more responsibility in school than she ever has. She is an amazing student and shows an incredible amount of integrity, grit and resilience every day. I am so impressed with how much she has grown throughout high school and she deserves recognition for all of the wonderful things she does in life.”
• Krishan Miller, 12th grade, Trophy Sports Center High School Scholar Athlete of the Month — Miller, was nominated by Athletic Director Jeff Eyrich, who wrote: “Krishan Miller is a third-year varsity soccer starter as goalkeeper. Krishan has nine shutouts and 90 saves. His strength has been that he can see the field like a field player. He knows when to use his foot to pass, throw and punt. Krishan is an amazing kid who works harder than anyone I know. He never complains and does whatever the coaches tell him to do. He is very coachable and always thinks about winning for the team. Krishan is currently taking six courses, including two AP courses and French IV [and] has a 3.83 GPA.”
• Naomi Hyatt, YS High School intervention specialist, Peifer Orchard Employee of the Month — Hyatt is a villager in her fifth year as a district employee and was nominated by social studies teacher Hannah Corrigan, who wrote: “Naomi routinely shows up for her colleagues and students. She attends sporting events, helps chaperone dances, creates engagement for all students, and helps create a supportive, helpful, meaningful environment for students to learn and feel supported in. She also communicates effectively with all of her co-workers and offers guidance to everyone who needs it.”
