On Friday, Sept. 22, the News caught local artist and meter reader Travis Hotaling working on an unusual canvas: the Village recently tasked the painter with beautifying some of the downtown fire hydrants.

“The Village is currently in ‘good shape’ in how it distributes power to its residents and businesses, but if Yellow Springs is to continue growing, the grid will need to be improved.”

The future business sited for that land, dubbed the Lumber Co. Market & Eatery, owned by Massies Creek Ventures, LLC, aims to have approximately 10 vendors selling prepared foods and goods in a newly renovated facility where a 1940s-era lumber yard once stood.

At their Tuesday, Sept. 5, regular meeting, Village Council reviewed a list of ongoing projects and discussed which of those projects should be paused temporarily or stopped altogether — as well as which may continue and which can be initiated.

“There may be no better place to witness that confluence of differing goals and interconnectedness than the 1,147 acres that compose the Glen Helen Nature Preserve.”

Villagers will soon have an easier and safer time walking down some of Yellow Springs’ most trafficked throughways.

On Friday, July 14, the village’s comically large scissors were once again brought to the ribbon cutting of a new downtown Yellow Springs business: Singapore Seahorse Coin Jewelry is now open for business at 100 Corry St.

Last week, local muralist Pierre Nagley made the first brush strokes on his newest public work: a massive mural in honor of the late villager Marco Comegys, who died unexpectedly in a fatal motorcycle accident earlier this year.

Several potential housing projects were brought to the table at the most recent Village Council meeting Monday, Aug. 21.

True to its name, Studio Uncommon, Yellow Springs’ newest tattoo parlor, specializes in a unique and infrequent style. It’s located in Suite L at 305 N. Walnut St., in the Millworks business park.
