A memorial and celebration of life will be held for former resident Petronella Benton on Saturday, Aug. 22, at 6 p.m., at the home of Nate Cornett and Lisa Wolters, 165 Brookside Drive, Yellow Springs. Friends and acquaintances alike are invited to attend.

A memorial service for Richard (Dick) Miller will be held Sunday, Aug. 30, at 3 p.m., in the Glen Helen Building. After the service all are invited to a reception in the lobby to view a retrospective show of Dick’s long art career.

Evelyn Chiddister, 89, died in Bloomington, Ind., on Tuesday morning, Aug.11, following an illness. A longtime resident of Goshen, Ind., Evelyn moved to Yellow Springs to be near her daughter in June 2007 after she fell and broke her hip, living first in the Friends Care Community Extended Care Center and then in the Friends Assisted Living Center, until her move to Bloomington four months ago.

Lucy Marquerite Van Ness Fogg spent most of her adult life in Yellow Springs until eight years ago, when she moved to Carriage Court Assisted Living in Cincinnati. She died there on Saturday morning, Aug. 8. She was 92.

The McKinney School and Yellow Springs High School girls basketball program is offering open gym sessions on Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 4 to 6 p.m. The sessions are open to any middle and high school girls interested in playing basketball. The Yellow Springs Youth KTC Select girls basketball program offers open gyms on Wednesday evenings from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m., at the Bryan Community Center. Barbara Hamilton Davis died of heart failure on June 6, in Los Angeles, Calif. She was 80. Born Barbara Retta Hamilton on Jan. 7, 1929, in Yellow Springs, she was the third child of Etta Belle Perry and Kenneth James Hamilton.

The Yellow Springs McKinney School football program will hold a meeting on Monday, Aug. 10, at 7:15 p.m. at the high school practice field for students and parents of students interested in playing on this year’s junior high football team.
