Township to float levy renewal
Miami Township Trustees voted at their meeting this month to place a Township Fire-Rescue levy renewal on the ballot in November. The trustees chose a renewal, which does not increase taxes, for several reasons, including the possibility that they may ask voters for a new levy next year to build a new fire station.

Barr house to disappear in a controlled burn
The historic house on the Barr property downtown will be burned in a training exercise this month, according to Miami Township Fire Chief Colin Altman at Village Council’s April 1 meeting.

Township accounts audited
Miami Township elected officials were ordered to pay $11,624 back to the Township last week when a state audit revealed that they overpaid themselves in 2010 and that money in the Township’s books is missing from its bank account.

Township losing estate revenue
As a result of reduced state and local funds, Miami Township will need to decide how much to rein in the general fund, which is expected to lose nearly 12 percent of its budget this year, and then sustain another 12 percent in cuts the following year.
