  • Teen volleyball practice

Yellow Springs High School and McKinney School will begin volleyball practice at Mills Lawn School on Monday, Aug. 4. Grades nine through 12 will have practice from 3:30 to 5:30 with grades seven and eight to practice from 5:30 to 7 p.m.

  • Psychic or not, come to t-ball

I ran into a couple of t-ball players Saturday at Docton’s Animal Clinic in Xenia, when I was picking up medicine for our new, 8-week-old puppy, Cody. Olivia Ling, 4, marched in the front door with her fabulous sister Eliana, 6, their mom Audrey, and their guinea pig in a box.

  • Pirates win Minor League, tourney

The Pirates maintained their season-long lead during the final week of play to win the Minor League regular season championship with a 13–1 record. The team narrowly escaped a strong Reds team during the post-season tournament last week before going on to defeat the second-place Indians for the post-season crown.

  • Football workouts begin

Yellow Springs High School and McKinney School football conditioning for the 2008 season will begin on Thursday, July 24, at 5 p.m., at the practice field located behind the high school. Players should wear tennis shoes, shorts and t-shirts.

  • Indians follow Pirate lead in minors

While the Pirates still dominate league standings, the Indians have reclaimed second place by overtaking the Yankees to start the final week of the season.

  • Meet our promising future at t-ball

A couple of years back, Steffi Cooper, 8, was distressed about our races to the outfield and back at the beginning and ending of the evening. “Someone always loses,” she said.

  • Pirates lead Minor League

The Indians took a pair of games from the Yankees on Monday, July 14, to overtake the Yankees and move into second place behind the Pirates to start off the final two weeks of the 2008 season.

  • Perry League aging well at 38!

We had a ton of children last Friday. I was surprised. I had expected turnout to be thin because of the 4th of July layover — we didn’t have t-ball Friday night, July 4, so there was a two-week break between t-ball nights, nor our usual one.

  • Sports physicals exam night set

All Yellow Springs athletes in grades seven through twelve will need a new pre-participation physical exam before they can participate on any school-sponsored sports team.

  • ‘Semi-pro’ football teams at YSHS

The Miami Valley Warriors “semi-pro” football team will, once again, play its 2008 home games at Yellow Springs High School. Home dates for regular season games are Saturdays, July 19; Sept. 20 and 27; and Oct. 4, all at 7 p.m.
