Visioning report to Council tonight

Jamie Green of ACP Visioning+Planning of Columbus will make a presentation on the results of the local yearlong visioning effort in a special meeting to Village Council and the Miami Township Trustees tonight, Wednesday, June 2, at 7 p.m. in Council chambers at Bryan Center. The public is invited.

Green, who guided the local effort with the help of a steering committee, will present to Council and the Trustees results from the recent third and last public phase of the process. The event, a three-day open house in May called “Shape Our Future,” was an opportunity for participants to give feedback on action steps that ACP created from participant input at the first two public phases of the process. Visioning participants who took part in “Shape Our Future” were each given five dots and asked to place them beside the listed steps they considered most important. The steps were divided into four initiative areas, which were Meeting the Needs of People, Managing the Physical Environment, Strengthening the Economy and Fostering Leadership and Collaboration.

According to a summary of the event, the action step given the most dots (58) was under Meeting the Needs of People initiative. The step was to “establish a trust fund and partnerships for the construction or rehabilitation of housing that is permanently affordable for families with low to moderate incomes.” The second most popular action step, with 51 dots, was to “create an economic development plan,” under the Strengthening the Economy initiative. The third most favored action, with 45 dots, was to “conduct an analysis of the possibility for a cooperative effort by the Village of Yellow Springs, Antioch College and other local entities such as Friends Care Community in creating a community health and fitness center in currently underutilized college buildings.”

At tonight’s meeting,Green will further present the results of the visioning effort.
