Douglas Abner

Douglas Monroe Abner, a Yellow Springs resident since 1976, died Aug. 21 in Yellow Springs from complications from a brain tumor he had been dealing with since 2009. He was 60.
He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Julie Kay Karlson, a local artist and bird watcher, by his mother, Glenna Ayers of Richmond, Ind., and by a sister, Melissa Julien, also of Richmond.
Abner, described by his wife as a very private person who was loving, generous and intelligent, was a research physicist for the U.S. Air Force for 22 years. He retired in 2009. The couple met when both were students at Earlham College in Richmond. He went on to earn bachelors and masters degrees from Wright State University.
Abner was cremated, and a memorial service will be scheduled at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to the Yellow Springs Tree Committee, P.O. Box 122, Yellow Springs, OH 45387.
