On Monday, Dec. 4, Village Council continued the ongoing discussion of pursuing a plan that could culminate in the construction of a low-income housing development on the 35-acre land known as the CBE.

On Saturday evening, Dec. 2, jolly ol’ Saint Nick took a break from what is ostensibly the busiest time of his year to pay Yellow Springs an early visit.

Yellow Springs residents may soon be automatically enrolled in the Village’s Utility Round-Up program — wherein municipal utility customers round up their monthly bill to the nearest dollar, with the additional amount going to help those struggling to pay their bills.

Earlier this week, Village crews did a little sharing of their own and carried out the tradition of delivering flour and sugar to Yellow Springs widows and widowers.

At the most recent Village Council meeting on Monday, Nov. 20, members of the Dayton-Walnut Streets Neighborhood Action Group — knowingly and facetiously abbreviated to NAG — called for greater oversight from the Village of the downtown noise.

On Thursday, Nov. 16, a small team of local residents and members of the Village Environmental Commission went to the northern reaches of the 17-acre Ellis Park to install a 4,500-square-foot prairie.

The perennial conversation of what to do with the 35 acres of land on the western edge of Yellow Springs — known as the Center for Business and Education, or CBE — resurfaced at the most recent Village Council meeting on Monday, Nov. 20.

This year marks a dual anniversary for Current Cuisine: 40 years of catering and 35 years selling prepared foods, meals and international groceries at 237 Xenia Ave.

On Sunday, Nov. 19, local multimedia artists Kathi Seidl and Beth Holyoke will unveil their newest installation: a kaleidoscopic fairy ring of felted and crocheted mushrooms clustered up and around the central pillar in the atrium of the Vernet Ecological Center.

As noted in Monday’s regular Village Council meeting, the budgeted expenses for next year total $17,852,817 — an amount that includes expenses from the general, special revenue, capital project and enterprise funds.
