  • New jazz show comes to WYSO line-up

    "Equinox," a jazz show hosted by Duante Beddingfield, will make its home on WYSO on Monday evenings.

    Each Monday night, host Duante Beddingfield will lead listeners on a journey through straight-ahead jazz, from classic tracks to the latest releases, including local musicians, obscure performers, and artists from all over the world putting their own unique stamp on the music.

    On Sunday, March 25, Chamber Music in Yellow Springs will bring to the area one of the world’s leading guitar ensembles, the Brazilian Guitar Quartet. The concert will take place at 7:30 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church. Miami Valley’s own Jim McCutcheon will give a preconcert lecture at 6:45 p.m.

    A comedian who recently made his network TV debut on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert after performing as the opening act on Dave Chappelle’s 2015 national tour, has been snagged to perform in Yellow Springs for the Antioch School’s annual Auction Gala event.

  • Celebrate YS banner festival, YSAC permanent collection

    On Friday, Jan. 19, the Yellow Springs Arts Council will celebrate the Yellow Springs Banner Festival, a two-decades-long annual event that ended in 2012. At 7 p.m. a panel discussion will take place regarding the festival, on the second floor of the Bryan Center.     This weekend villagers are invited to celebrate two events beloved to the local arts community — the Yellow Springs Banner Festival, and the return of the Yellow Springs Arts Council, or YSAC, permanent collection to the John Bryan Community Center.

  • Tickets to Antioch School’s Auction Gala are still available

    The Antioch School’s Older Group was recently immersed in storytelling and theater, thanks to special guest Christopher Westhoff, of the Mad River Theater Works performing arts company, who spent a portion of each day last week at the school. Westhoff helped students develop their own play about the life and influence of retired Older Group teacher Bill Mullins, which they performed last Friday.     The Yellow Springs News won the Newspaper of the Year award, the highest honor in its size division, for the eighth year in a row at the annual convention of the Ohio News Media Association (formerly Ohio Newspaper Association). The event took place Feb. 8 and 9 in Columbus.

    The World House Choir, an inclusive, multicultural, mixed-voice community choir based in Yellow Springs, is welcoming new members as the group prepares for its next set of performances, including events in Yellow Springs, Dayton and Cincinnati.
