In response to a question regarding how he would expand Yellow Springs’ tax base, candidate for Village manager Randy Bukas said he would first take good care of existing businesses, then seek to attract new ones.
In a region in which many industries are closing and people are losing jobs, Yellow Springs can prosper by, rather than trying to be like other communities, focusing on the qualities that make it unique, according to a finalist for the position of Yellow Springs Village manager.

At its Aug. 18 meeting, Village Council approved a process for interviewing the finalists for Village manager that includes a public forum for citizen participation. The manager search is being conducted by Don Vermillion of the University of Dayton, who Council previously hired to oversee the process.
In the quest to find a new Village manager, Village Council at its meeting Monday, Aug. 4, approved a survey to gauge what Council members, Village staff and village residents care most about in a Village manager.

At its July 7 meeting Yellow Springs Village Council officially hired its interim Village manager and also took a first step toward hiring a consultant to help search for a new Village manager.
As interim Village manager, John Weithofer has observed a few things since he first came to the village three weeks ago. Yellow Springs is an ambitious village of 3,700 that provides services and tackles projects generally found in cities of 15,000 or more, he said.
Village Council members agreed at the end of their meeting Monday, June 2, to appoint John Weithofer as manager consultant with the intent of hiring him as interim Village manager before Village Manager Eric Swansen resigns his position.
The Village of Yellow Springs ended its 2007 fiscal year with a general fund surplus of about $1.5 million, its largest surplus in recent years, according to Village Manager Eric Swansen at Council’s March 31 meeting.
