Since cold weather is predicted for Beggars Night, trick-or-treaters should dress warmly beneath their costumes.

For safety during Halloween revels, it is recommended that trick-or-treaters carry a flashlight and use reflective tape or stickers on costumes or treat bags to ensure visibility to drivers. Likewise, as masks can block vision, little ghouls and goblins are advised to use non-toxic face paint instead. Costumes and shoes should fit well to prevent trips and falls, and costume accessories should be soft and flexible, not sharp and pointy.

Trick-or-treaters should look all ways and listen for traffic before crossing, as traffic may be heavier than usual in residential areas. Crossing should be done at corners, not between parked cars, and if there are no sidewalks, trick-or-treaters should walk on the left side of the road, facing traffic, being sure to stay out of the middle of the street. All those out on Beggars Night should walk and not run, obey traffic signals and use caution when crossing driveways. Likewise, drivers should be aware that children tend to congregate in large groups around fire, rescue and police vehicles, which give out candy each year.
