    The murals that brighten many walls in the business district of the village are receiving formal recognition — the Village Inspiration and Design Award, or VIDA.

    Each year the International Documentary Association, a professional group for documentary filmmakers, selects a filmmaker to receive its highest honor, the Career Achievement Award.

  • Eldridge’s Western Swing comes to The Emporium

    This Friday, Dec. 14, the Emporium will present Kyle Eldridge and the Rhythm Rounders during the weekly wine tasting from 6:30 to 10 p.m. at 233 Xenia Avenue. Eldridge is a virtuoso guitarist in the Western Swing style, with plenty of rockabilly, vintage country and “Ameripolitan” sounds in the mix as well, backed by upright bass and drums. 

  • Mills Park Hotel wins leadership award

    Mills Park Hotel was named "Ohio Hospitality Leadership Team of the Year" by the Ohio Hotel and Lodging Association in November.     The management and staff of The Mills Park Hotel in Yellow Springs were named “Ohio Hospitality Leadership Team of the Year” at a recent conference of the state’s hotel and lodging professional association.

  • YS mother focuses family’s Christmas on helping asylum seekers

    The ongoing tense situation at the U.S.-Mexico border and the critical circumstances of as many as 15,000 Central American people seeking asylum in the U.S. at the Tijuana port of entry — part of the so-called “migrant caravan” — is sparking deep concern among Yellow Springs residents who are spearheading humanitarian aid responses and working to raise wider awareness about the crisis.

    The VIDA award presented Dec 12, 2018, recognizes the collective efforts of muralists working in Yellow Springs over the past two decades. Note that while individual artists may be credited here as creators, often the work of painting the murals is a collaborative effort among multiple artists.
